What we do

We are local and international leaders who strive to serve the aspirations of Vanuatu’s women and girls.
The Mitingar Women and Girls Association reaches out to and supports self-identified development needs of ni-Van women throughout every phase of life.
Our organisation helps to facilitate, coordinate and resource projects that our members propose and prioritise for their communities.

Vanuatu’s grassroots women are navigating severe day-to-day realities including vulnerability to gender-based violence, economic and political marginalisation, and the disproportionate impacts of climate change and natural disasters.

Natural Disaster and Climate Impacts

In 2024, the World Risk Report identified Vanuatu as one of the most disaster-prone nations on Earth.

Childbirth Related Deaths

Women in Vanuatu are over 20 times more likely to die from childbirth related complications than Australian women.

Seats in National Parliament

Women hold less than 2% of Vanuatu National Government seats compared to 49.67% in Australia.

Gender Based Violence

Approx. 2/3 of Vanuatu women suffer gender-based violence, with 27% reporting lifetime physical and sexual violence by intimate partners.
